Case Study

Daisy Goodwin, Author and newspaper columnist
Case

Fire at the family home in central London caused by a reflective mirror in a south facing  bedroom window mid-morning, sun caught the mirror the light bounced back onto the curtains and set fire to the bedroom, by the time the fire brigade arrived the house was well alight. The 5 storey house was all but destroyed.

Action & Result

Alan was called in to assess the damage and work with the insurers representatives . The first thing was to find Temporary accommodation for a year. Then it was down to preparing a detailed contents and building schedule, tenders were sought and a contractor was chosen. The house was rebuilt in just under a year. The Client wrote an article in the Sunday Times 27th March 2016 giving her account of the horrors and aftermath, ( Alan got a mention ).

Fragrance Company South of England
Case

Serious fire in the stock, packing and distribution unit that totally destroyed all of the clients finished product along with their raw materials.

Action & Result

Alan needed to take swift action to move production to a facility abroad that protected the business and the customer base. A temporary building was found close to the clients existing offices and R&D facility, the unit was fitted out and materials were soon being delivered to enable the company to reclaim their market share.

INDIAN RESTURANT CENTRAL LONDON
Case

The week leading up to Christmas 2014 disaster struck one on London’s iconic restaurants, a fire in the  kitchen destroying the ductwork, kitchen and causing severe smoke to the restaurant.

Action & Result

Swift action was taken by Alan who worked closely with the loss adjusters for the restaurant and landlord’s insurers. Estimates were obtained, new ducting was ordered and delivered swiftly. Substantial internal  repairs were carried out that enabled the premises to reopen within 5 months. A forceful marketing campaign paid by the insurer brought the customers back to the restaurant. The business was back and running and happy client wrote a letter of recommendation to Alan.

PRIVATE DENTAL PRACTICE IN CENTRAL LONDON
Case

Extensive damage caused in a leading dental surgery, Alan was called in to assess the damage and to work alongside the loss adjuster appointed by the insurance company to ensure a swift settlement was achieved with as little disruption to the practice.

Action & Result

The room in question was totally refurbished and the bespoke equipment delivered and installed in record time. Due to some clever manoeuvring around within the practice no business was lost. A substantial saving to the insurer and another happy client.

Alan Harris was called in to assess the extensive damage to the property following the bursting of pipe from an upper floor flat.

After days of LFB pumping out the basement the task o sifting through the debris began, comprehensive schedules were put together and submitted to the insurers appointed loss adjuster for validation. The  Claim brought to a satisfactory conclusion

Central London Theatre
Case

Water main bursting causing extensive damage to the theatres dressing rooms and stage sets, Alan Harris was recommended to handle this complex claim for the policy holder.

Action & Result

The property damage was so severe the loss adjuster immediately agreed that full supervision was required to ensure the high end work needed would be supervised to practical completion. Alan sourced the right team to work on this project. Some months later the owner took possession of their home and thanks were given to all concerned in the project.

European Bakery-Wembley
Case

A disastrous fire spread from an adjoining property that wiped out the entire bakery. Alan Harris was called into to assess the claim.

Action & Result

Temporary premises had to be found and quickly for the business to survive and just as important to retain the key staff. This was done and the next phase was to source specialist baking equipment from Europe. With orders placed machinery was delivered and production commenced. Customers returned, the business was saved and is now flourishing from what looked at the outset to be a lost cause.
